Your Sun Sign

April 20 - May 20
Taurus is ruled by the Planet Venus, a lovely gal who didn't deny herself many things. In ancient Roman mythology, Venus was the Goddess of Love, Beauty and Pleasure, and Taureans have pretty much taken up where she left off. Bulls are fond of all things pretty, whether it's in their home, at a museum or on the stage. Life as one sweet pas de deux is how the Taurean-born like it. To onlookers, this may look like so much materialism and blessed excess, but Bulls really aren't interested in living without beauty in their lives. Beauty to the Bull also comes in the way of a happy home life, one which includes a partner and a stable relationship.

Taureans value harmony in their personal lives, so they'll work hard on keeping their mate happy. The Bull's penchant for sensual pleasures, of course, can only help things along! Bulls can also be the sappiest of sentimentalists. Will all this overweening attention to their mate turn a Bull into a possessive mess? Probably not, although these folks do have to manage their tendency to latch on a bit tight. At the end of the day, however, the Taurean-born are true romantics and loyal to the core.

The Element associated with Taurus is Earth. No pie-in-the-sky for these practical folks, since they'd much rather be on terra firma. Bulls tend toward conservatism, and this is often seen in their day-to-day behavior. No far-out schemes (that's Air) or shrieking ultimatums (more like Fire) here. Taureans far prefer to take each day slowly and steadily and work toward their ultimate goal. Along these lines, those born under this Sign are happy to stick with their projects until they have reached a successful conclusion. They are also extremely patient and dependable along the way. Does that sound earthy enough? The only kink in this well-oiled chain is the heckler in the gallery that tries to upbraid the Bull. These folks may not have a hair-trigger temper, but it's short enough. Bulls in a hissy fit can get pretty argumentative, but eventually they'll calm down and come back to center, since these folks would much rather be Zen. The Earth in this Sign does tend to act as a balancing mechanism so that things never get truly out of hand. For every one person who considers the Bull a pain, there are two who will say 'No way!' and happily take the Taurean's gentle charms any day.

My Heritage Carcar Town: Now a City

I have mixed emotions with this current event.

Is the city hood good for CARCAR
or is only good for some people ?
Would the promise of big budget and new industries
to come in really true or just promises often broken?

I am proud to be a Carcaranon.
Would I be proud later on if the full brunt of city hood
done its course?
I will always remember my town as laid back,
everybody knows everybody.
One whole block full relatives, as our street GEN LUNA St is.

It will bring more people, more business, more noise, more garbage,
AND MORE DRUG RELATED ISSUES.
But come to think of it, even without the city hood,
Carcar is springing life on its own, breathing new life everywhere.
Gaisano and Jollibee came before it became a city
as well as the Sta. Lucia and Aboitiz Land companies.

Do we really need it or we just wanted it badly ?
Now, we can't do anything no more, can we ?

Senador Barbie

Kris, sis and cousin taps top designers for Noynoy's wardrobe and haircut

MY DIG ON THIS :

I used to like this guy a lot, but when he started to hang out with ERAP'S group, the admiration flew off the window in a puff, KRIS or NO KRIS. If you started to go out with the devil, you will soon become a devil. I cannot trust a man who changes his principles with a wink just to win. If you started out with somebody, stick to the person, whether or not this person is not popular for the moment. Loyalty plays a big role in my book. Then Cory, started to go with ERAP and company, it added more to my dismay. NOYNOY maybe NINOY'S SON but he is his MOTHER'S SON too.

Noynoy can easily succumb to women's charm and this could be his number one distraction or destruction. What can we do ? He grows up with strong women on his side, their influence on his person could never be discounted.

And now that he is SENATOR, would his women prevail over the Filipino people ?

We just finished hosting dinner with my husband's aunt from USA. What is so interesting was that it was only last week that they know they were relatives. If not for the cemetery caretaker, they wouldn't have bump into each other and reconnect. Mind you, they were close relations. Her mother and my husband's lola were sisters. I don't know the circumstances on why they lost contact, considering that they are close relations.

She was so happy to find new relatives that she wanted to hire a professional genealogist to trace the family roots.

Can anybody out there help ? Where can we get a professional genealogist ?

Eye Care Series 1: just sharing what i know best

EYE INJURY

Definition

  • Injuries to the eye, eyelid, and area around the eye.

Vision

  • The main concern is whether the vision is damaged.
  • Older children can tell us if their vision is blurred or out of focus. Test them at home by covering each eye in turn and having them look at a distant object.
  • Children less than 5 years old usually need to be examined to rule out serious injuries affecting vision even if the injury seems minor.

WHEN TO CALL YOUR DOCTOR FOR EYE INJURY

Call Your Doctor Now (night or day) If

  • You think your child has a serious injury.
  • Vision is blurred or lost in either eye.
  • Child reports double vision or unable to look upward.
  • Pupils unequal in size or abnormal shape.
  • Bloody or cloudy fluid behind the cornea (clear part).
  • Object hit the eye at high speed (such as from a lawn mower).
  • Sharp object hit the eye (such as metallic chip).
  • Skin is split open or gaping and may need stitches.
  • Any cut on the eyelid or eyeball.
  • Constant tearing or blinking.
  • Child keeps the eye covered or refuses to open it.
  • Severe pain.
  • Age less than 1 year old.

Call Your Doctor Within 24 Hours (between 9am and 4pm) If

  • You think your child needs to be seen.
  • Bruises near the eye (such as a black eye or bleeding into the white of the eyeball) in child less than 5 years old.

Call Your Doctor During Weekday Office Hours If

  • You have other questions or concerns.

Parent Care at Home If:

  • Mild eye injury and you don't think your child needs to be seen.

HOME CARE ADVICE FOR MILD EYE INJURIES

  1. Superficial Cuts or Scrapes:
    • Apply direct pressure for 10 minutes with a sterile gauze to stop any bleeding.
    • Wash the wound with soap and water for 5 minutes. (Protect the eye with a clean cloth.)
    • Apply antibiotic ointment to cuts. Cover large scrapes with Band-Aid. Change daily.
  2. Swelling or Bruises with Intact Skin (including a Black Eye):
    • Apply an ice pack for 20 minutes per hour to reduce the bleeding. Repeat for 4 consecutive hours.
    • Note: A black eye usually takes 1 to 2 days to develop. A flame-shaped bruise of the white of the eyeball is also common.
    • Apply a warm wash cloth for 10 minutes 3 times per day after 48 hours to help reabsorb the blood.
  3. Pain Medicine: Give acetaminophen (e.g. Tylenol) or ibuprofen as necessary for pain relief.
  4. Expected Course: Both of these injuries are harmless, last about 2 weeks and cannot be helped by any medicine.
  5. Call Your Doctor If:
    • Pain becomes severe.
    • Changes in vision.
    • Your child becomes worse or develops any of the "Call Your Doctor" symptoms.

The Eyes Have It

"Let her have Harvey," suggested one of the nurses, smiling.

I had been talking to the attending physician about which patient I should take next.

"Oh yes," the attending said. "You'll love Harvey. He's a doll."

As a second-year emergency medicine resident, I rotated through several hospitals --which meant that it took me much longer to get to know the regulars.

Harvey was a thin, pale, white man in his mid-forties. He was clean but still somehow looked disheveled. The only remarkable feature about Harvey was his eyes, which were astonishingly clear and blue.

"I'll take him to the eye room," the nurse said to me, and Harvey followed her, quiet and obedient.

"What's the story that everyone but me knows about this fellow?" I asked.

"Take a look at his file in the computer," the attending said. "You'll see."

Harvey had been in the emergency department a total of seventy-seven times within twenty-three months. Every chief complaint was ocular - "painful eye," "scratched eye," "reported burn to right eye." It went on and on.

"This is incredible. This guy's been here over seventy times in two years, all for eye issues."

The attending smiled. "Just wait til you meet him."

When I walked into the opthalmology room, I saw Harvey in his seat by the ocular lamp, wringing his hands.

"I'm Dr. Finkel. What brings you here today?"

Harvey looked anxious.

"I have paint in my right eye," he said. "I brought the paint brushes to show you."

"When did this happen?" I asked.

"An hour ago. I brought the brushes to show you."

"I see," I continued. "And how do you know that you got paint in your eye?"

"I could feel it immediately!" he exclaimed defensively. Harvey seemed irritated, and crossed and re-crossed his legs several times. "I brought the paint brushes to show you."

I decided I'd better look at the paintbrushes.

He reenacted five or six times how he accidentally turned the paintbrush toward himself momentarily and how, consequently, the paint was hurled into his right eye.

"Let's take a look then," I said. I didn't want to offend him again in any way.

Harvey knew the eye exam as well as I did, and he sat remarkably still throughout, something most patients find uncomfortable.

"Where do you live, sir?" I asked as I worked.

"A few miles away. I work at the supermarket on the corner. I work forty-six hours a week. I like my job. I like to paint even better but I can't make money doing that." Harvey barely moved his mouth as he spoke, never once interfering with my exam. "I feel some of that paint in my right eye for sure."

"Do you live alone?"

"Yeah, but my sister lives next door. She has two children. I paint their faces," Harvey said. "I can still feel that paint in my eye."

I reached for the opthalmoscope attached to the wall.

"How old are your sister's kids?" I asked as I looked through the scope.

"They're five and seven. I hope that paint isn't going to hurt my eye," he said. "I like to paint their faces and other people's faces too."

Harvey continued to talk, and as the exam proceeded, I concluded that there was absolutely nothing I could detect wrong with either eye.

I was afraid to tell him the good news.

"Well Harvey," I started, "The paint in your eye has dissolved without causing any damage. Both of your eyes look fine now. What do you think?"

"Okay," he sighed. "I'll just use those eye-wetting drops like usual then."

"Do you have a way home?" I was surprised at how well he was taking the news of his good ocular health.

"Yeah. My sister's outside. I brought some new pictures. I gave them to the nurse, Marci. Thank you doctor." And with that, Harvey left.

Around 4:30 in the morning, when things had quieted down, I went to see Marci in triage.

"Harvey was here today...he told me he had brought some pictures he made. Do you know where they are?"

"Yeah. I put them in there with all the others." She pointed toward the drawer behind her.

When I opened the drawer, I found a stack of portraits - some were painted, some sketched. One was drawn in crayon. The subjects in Harvey's portraits were men, women and children of all ages, and each was unique. There was only one thing that all of Harvey's subjects had in common. None of them had eyes.
